Prompted by Steve and Julies recent trip, I dug out the CD with all my Normandy pictures on to have a trip down memory lane. Having seen them again, I thought I'd share them as I don't think many have been shown.
Before the trip, I spent several weeks searching the internet for places to visit, and not just the main ones such as Pegasus Bridge, but also for randomly placed memorials scattered around the countryside.
We were spending a week in Normandy and a week in Brittany. Although we had only bought the Jeep three months before and hadn't driven it that far, we decided that we had to take the Jeep there to tour around in. As we were towing it there, if we did break down, so long as the wheels turned, we could tow it home, so I made sure I had some spare wheel bearings just in case!
This thread could get quite long as I have about 140 pictures to share from the many sites we visited. I think I still have all the maps of the locations, so if anyone is planning a visit, I can probably point you in the right direction. The pictures were taken a year before I got my Digital SLR camera, so the quality isn't as high as usual, but they are still very viewable!

So, intro over, we arrived in France on Tuesday 19th July, and after setting up camp at 'CHÂTEAUX MARTRAGNY' near Bayeux, went to explore the immediate area. Battery at Pointe-du-Hoc First port of call was the coastal battery at Pointe-du-Hoc. The 155mm guns received intense bombardment. The whole area is severely cratered as can be seen in the third picture below. One destroyed emplacement still entombs its crew and is now a memorial to those lost on both sides during June 6th.

Omaha D-Day Museum near Pointe-du-Hoc Situated not far from Pointe-du-Hoc is the Omaha D-Day Museum. In addition to numerous small items on display in the building, there are two landing craft, several pieces of artillery, the gun from a Panther tank and several beach landing obstructions.
