While on holiday in Norfolk, I got to meet up with some fellow military vehicle and 8th airforce enthusiasts at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Here's a few photos from the day. B-17 Fortress 'Sally B', the only airworthy B-17 in Europe now following the grounding of the French 'Pink Lady' due to a combination of insurance costs and an aging air and ground crew. I got the chance for a guided tour of 'Sally B' by Peter Brown, the chief engineer who has looked after the aircraft for around 25 years. Peter powered up the electrical system, and went through the start up and some emergency proceedures. Here's the co-pilot's side of the thingypit. Looking along the rear fuselage, past the waist guns, towards the ball turret and radio room. More to follow later today.....

Back to the B-17, a complete view of the thingypit. A view out of the co-pilot's window across the numbers three and four engines. One of the .50 cal waist guns. This is the other Duxford B-17, formerly known as 'Mary Alice'. Over the last 14 months, the aircraft was stripped down, areas of corrosion dealt with, and then repainted as a factory fresh example.
