The American Air Museum B-17, still awaiting the re-fit of the cowls, chin turred and flying controls. North American B-25 Mitchell. Part of the 8th Airforce Memorial. Each outline is an aircraft and crew lost. There are dozens of these glass panels around the American Air Museum. B-17 'Sally B' in the late afternoon sun. That's it for the Duxford trip. The following day I went to the 100th Bomb Group Museum at Thorpe Abbotts near Diss. This was the home base where the B-17 I modelled was based. Those pictures are still to be sorted. Tonight I'm off to a lecture from an 8th Air Force historian. All of these events are part of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the 8th Air Force arriving in the UK. Missions started 17th August, 1942; just twelve aircraft in an organisation which would become the largest single organisation in the world.
